本片是二十年前北京电影制片厂拍摄的影片《甜蜜的事业》的续集。当年唐二叔想要儿子，却一连生了五个女儿，现在五个女儿都长大了。其中唐来弟当了村里的计划生育委员，专门做计划生育工作。通过唐二叔和他的五个女儿的新故事，反映出改革开放二十年来我国农村的新面貌、新风尚，塑造了以唐来弟为代表的先进农村计划生育干部的新形象。作为喜剧片，能在笑声中给人以启迪和思考。
